What I do:
Ana Altares, PhD, RD, is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Arizona State University whose work centers on food policy and program evaluation. Her research focuses on improving access to nutritious and affordable foods through federal nutrition programs and community-based initiatives. Current projects include expanding outreach among Indigenous populations to increase participation in WIC; examining the importance of school nutrition programs in childhood obesity prevention; and building partnerships to broaden the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) for greater community impact. Her previous research explored how households cope with food insecurity in high cost-of-living regions. Guided by an equity-oriented and community-engaged approach, Ana is committed to working alongside communities to understand needs, inform policy, and advance lasting improvements in nutrition access and health outcomes.
