Title: Federal Priorities and Opportunities for Nutrition and Obesity Policy Research and Translation:  A federal agency panel on addressing nutrition, equity, sustainability, and climate

Brief description:  A number of federal priorities have emerged including health, equity, and the climate. The recent 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) also brought world leaders together to accelerate collective plans and action to address global climate change, including highlighting the critical connections between food systems, nutrition, and climate change.  In this panel, we will hear from key federal agency staff about approaches and resources agencies are assessing and implementing to reduce food waste, support environmentally-friendly practices, promote local agriculture, and support food purchasing from historically underserved farmers, in order to create more equitable and sustainable food systems that support healthy people and healthy environments.

Presenters:
Ruth Petersen - Director, Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Elise Golan – Director for Sustainable Development, Office of the Chief Economist, US Department of Agriculture
Claudia Fabiano – Sustainable Management of Food, Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery, US Environmental Protection Agency
Shannon Kenny – Senior Advisor on Food Loss and Food Waste, Office of Research and Development, US Environmental Protection Agency
