Title: Is the Housing Crisis Preventing Households from Receiving Food Assistance?

Presentation Summary: 2.7 million households receive an eviction filing each year in the United States. These households need access to SNAP and other food assistance programs, but does housing insecurity prevent them from doing so? To answer this question, we link millions of evictions records to administrative records for SNAP. We find that SNAP enrollment deteriorates immediately following an eviction filing or eviction judgment, with effects that span years.
