Presentation: The Social Safety Net in the US and the Short and Long Run Impacts on Health

US social safety net programs such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Food Stamps generate important reductions in poverty rates each year. In this presentation, economist and public policy scholar Hilary Hoynes reviews what we know about the effects of these policies on nutrition and health in both the short and long run. The talk will also identify the gaps in research. The evolving evidence on this issue is important for looking forward to the effects of the expanded Child Tax Credit and UBI pilots around the country.
